Admission Guidelines

The H.P. University has started semester system of examination with Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) under Rashtriya Uchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) from Session 2013-14. The candidate shall have to undergo the prescribed courses of study in a period not less than three years or more than five academic years from the date of admission. A candidate will not be allowed more than three attempts to pass a course.

Eligibility Conditions

  • Passed +2 Examination (in any academic stream) conducted by the H.P. Board of School Education or an examination accepted as equivalent there to by the various bodies of the H.P. University.
  • Provided that a student who has passed qualifying examination in Arts Stream admitted in B.A. programme for admission.
  • Provided that a student who has passed qualifying examination in commerce stream will be given preference in B.Com. programme for admission.
  • Provided that a student who has passed qualifying examination in science stream will be given preference in B.Sc. programme for admission.
  • Provided that if a student who passed 10+2 exam in other than Commerce stream and want to seek admission in Commerce (B.Com. 1st year) the candidate must have passed his/her 10+2 exam with Economics or Mathematics as one of the subjects (As per HPU ordinance Volume 1, Chapter 1, Page no. 41 & 42, Rule no. (ii).
  • Notwithstanding eligibility for admission, the Principal may refuse admission, if the conduct of a student has not been up to the mark and satisfaction to the authority during previous year.
  • A student disqualified / expelled / rusticated by any university shall not be admitted to any course during his/ her disqualification period. (HPU Ordinance No. 3.6).
  • The Principal reserves the right to disallow or cancel any admission.

Upper Age Limit

  • 25 years for girls and 23 years for boys as on July 1, 2021. 3 years relaxation is available for SC/ ST students as per rules.
  • The Vice-Chancellor, H.P.U. in exceptional cases / circumstances, to be recorded in writing , may give relaxation in upper age limit up to a maximum of six months to any candidate. All such cases of age relaxation of up to six months may be granted admission provisionally by the Principal and a consolidated list of all such cases will be sent for approval of the Vice- Chancellor by 31st October of every academic year.
  • Relaxation in upper age limit is also available to physically disabled candidates.
