Dept. of Chemistry
Book

Department of Chemistry of Govt. College Jhandutta is one of the dynamic and growing departments with faculty dedicated to provide quality education for all undergraduate students of sciences. The objective of the Department is to discover, inspire and educate the young minds and to cultivate a quality teaching environment for students. The Department aims to provide the best learning resources to its students. The courses offered by the department are affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University Shimla (H.P.). The department has implemented Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). At present the department consists of two teaching faculty members and one LA. The department has one well equipped lab with facility of carrying out practicals according to specified syllabus.

Chemistry is referred to as the science that systematically studies the composition, properties, and reactivity of matter at atomic and molecular level. The scope of chemistry is very broad. The key areas of study of chemistry comprise Organic chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry.

In 2016, Government College Jhandutta Distt Bilaspur introduced science discipline with Chemistry as one of the major subjects.

The broad aims of bachelor degree programme in Chemistry are :-

  • Broad and balance knowledge in chemistry in addition to understanding of key chemical concepts, principles and theories.
  • To develop a student's ability and skill to acquire expertise over solving both theoretical and applied chemistry problems.
  • To provide knowledge and skill to the students’ thus enabling them to undertake further studies in chemistry in related areas or multidisciplinary areas that can be helpful for self-employment/ entrepreneurship.
  • To mould a responsible citizen who is aware of most basic domain-independent knowledge, including critical thinking and communication.
  • To enable the students to prepare for higher education in Chemistry as well as for competitive examinations like UPSC/State Civil Services Examinations.
  • To encourage students for higher study in Chemistry through JAM (Joint admission Test for Masters) and various State/Central universities.
