The Department of Physics, Govt. College Jhandutta was established in 2017 with an objective to pursue undergraduate courses in Physics. At present, the department runs an undergraduate program under choice-based credit system (CBCS) following the syllabus framed by affiliated university Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. The Physics Department collaborates with other academic departments of the college for conducting interdisciplinary activities. The students are introduced to the various opportunities and choices available to them after their graduation in Physics along with teaching of core courses, elective courses and skill enhancement courses. The issue of shortage of classrooms and laboratory for Physics department will be resolved after the completion of construction work of Science Block. The department conducts career guidance and counseling sessions to guide students towards the right career path. Presently, there is one Associate Professor and one Laboratory Assistant, rendering their services in the department of Physics. About 50 students are enrolled to study physics courses in the college.

To inculcate scientific attitude and temper in the students so that they can pursue quality research and contribute to the development of the country.

To inculcate analytical and quantitative skills in students so that they become good researchers and solve the problems in the society.

Challenges

• To maintain the academic standard in the department in spite of lack of human and physical resources.
• To enhance the enrolment of students.
• To link the curriculum and teaching-learning process with the need of industry so that students become employable after their graduation.
• To orient the students for basic research in the field of science.
• To cope up with the heavy workload and tight schedule of teaching classes.

Future Plan

To make efforts for getting projects and organize seminar, workshop, conference etc.
