Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of Govt Collge Jhandutta for Mental Health Services and Confidentiality:
1. Purpose
Govt. College Jhandutta is committed to promoting the mental well-being of its students and staff by providing a safe, supportive, and confidential environment. This SOP outlines the procedures for providing mental health support while ensuring privacy and confidentiality.
2. Scope
This SOP applies to all students, teaching and non-teaching staff, faculty mentors, and members of the Student Counselling and Mental Health Committee.
3. Mental Health Support
The College shall provide:
- Individual counselling by designated faculty counselor's.
- Faculty mentoring to identify and support students in distress.
- Awareness programmes on stress management, emotional well-being, life skills, yoga, and mental health.
- Referral of students requiring specialized care to qualified mental health professionals or healthcare institutions.
4. Identification and Referral
Faculty mentors and staff should encourage students experiencing emotional, academic, behavioral, or personal difficulties to seek counselling. Students may also approach the counsellor voluntarily. Cases requiring professional intervention shall be referred to appropriate medical or mental health services.
5. Confidentiality
All counselling sessions and related records shall be treated as strictly confidential. Information disclosed during counselling shall not be shared without the student's consent, except when:
- There is a risk of self-harm or harm to others.
- Immediate medical intervention is required.
- Disclosure is required by law or competent authority.
Only the minimum necessary information shall be disclosed in such situations.
6. Record Keeping
The Faculty Counsellor shall maintain confidential counselling records in a secure manner. Access to these records shall be restricted to authorized personnel only.
7. Responsibilities
Principal
- Ensure effective implementation of this SOP.
- Facilitate referrals and provide institutional support.
Faculty Counsellor
- Provide counselling, maintain confidentiality, and keep counselling records.
- Organize mental health awareness activities.
Faculty Mentors
- Identify students requiring support and refer them for counselling.
Students
- i. Seek counselling whenever needed and participate in wellness programmes.
8. Review
This SOP shall be reviewed annually by the Student Counselling and Mental Health Committee and revised whenever necessary.
